Larry and The Slab boys

This was a multi-camera session on Larry and the Slab boys a local band with the lead singer from scotland, they are a 4piece band. In this shoot i wanted to focus on how the studio was set up and how it looked with lighting and to see if the bands music matched how the studio looked, so if the lighting matched the pace of the music and if it matched the atmosphere and how the shoot fitted together there were 3 win cameras used and a handy camera on a wheel to get some good free lance shots. we also decided to do the profile in the studio were the band had just played.

Above how the interview was shot                                  Above how the session's establishing shot looked

Trev Meaney Poems Shoot

Yesterday we did a Trev Meaney shoot he is a local poet who is very amusing who does poems about life and society now, in this shoot i was floor manager again i felt very comfortable doing this shoot because it was the second time of me being floor manager i enjoyed doing this role.

when shooting this we decided to have 3shots on camera and we also decided to use a boom mic as well as the normal mic he was talking into, the 3shots we did were a side on shot shooting the side of his face and some hand expressions, an establishing shot and then the 3rd shot was on an angle catching his top half from shoulders up to his head.

This sort of shoot was different like the karate one compared to the normal band sessions we usually do because it was just one person so we could get a range of shots because we was focusing on one person. we used lighting and had a spot light on him here is a picture of the lighting below with me in the lighting whilst we was setting it up. here are some shots similar to what we got.

This is one of Trevor Meaneys poems (we did not shoot this) ill put the one we did when its on vimeo

Maya Deren- Meditation on Violence

We did a lesson on Maya Deren and her short film on meditation on violence that had a man doing karate in it changing from different locations each location and each section had its own part to play in it because they have different meanings each section such as when he is in the room with the white background means that he is training and he tranquil but then the location changes to were he is on half white half black background to me this symbolises Ying-Yang with the black and white.

The film below is 12minutes long.

Meditation onViolence

Yorkshire Sculpture Park/ IMAX

We went to the Yorkshire sculpture park for the day and visited the IMAX at bradford and watched a 3D movie, at the sculpture park although their were sculptures their were also pieces of moving image which i did not realise at first.

This particular sculpture was a piece of work by Jaume Plensa who created Twenty Nine palms at first this doesn't look like moving image but actually were it is situated in the park in the room with the open glass window across from it creates a piece of moving image when the sculpture gets moved when people move it then it projects the shade onto the wall this when you then look at changes into  completely different piece of work from when you first look at it because you are looking at the shadows moving on the wall as well as the sculpture it self this then creates a piece of moving image as well as a sculpture. because the light from the open window creates the shadows onto the wall from the sculpture.

Their are also audio pieces of work by Jaume Plensa such as the piece Jerusalem because the gongs are situated in certain place around the room all with a piece of text engraved into them and when you hit the gongs because of the different text then the gongs make a different noise this the just doesn't become sculpture it becomes a piece of audio work as well.

both pieces of work are on the website above with the photographs being taken by Jonty Wilde

Audio Project

In my audio project i have mind mapped different ideas and i changed my mind several times because i was unsure which one would be the best but i have decided to go with one of my ideas that i would ask people to tell me about their dreams? Why you ask because they are random and everyone is different to each person

so i asked 5 people to tell me their dreams they were all very bizarre and different and then i decided to put it on to Adobe Audition and transform and distort the participants voices so you couldn't tell who it was telling the dream i decided to do this to add meaning to the strays so i did it in different types off ways so somebody was telling me a scary dream they had i would distort their voice so that it sound creepier by making their voices sound deeper so it was like a narrators telling a story!

i got my inspiration from gillian wearing for this idea of recording people telling me something random on the spot about their dreams just like Gillian Wearing did but she did it in a different medium she used photographs with people saying how they felt at this moment in time this is were i think i come up with the idea to use peoples dreams this is the only link i can think of that would make me want to do something like this.

Karate Session

We did a multi-camera session in the studio and we filmed some people doing karate this was a very hard session because of the fast and quick movements of the participants involved this meant that we collaborated as a group and decided that it would be better if we got the 3 cameras in a circle so we could catch the movements of them from different angles.

In this session we also had a handy cam which was used to get some more close up and intimate  shots of them with this camera because it is lighter and easier to control and quicker we now have the footage and i am practicing my editing skills on this on premiere pro trying to put the footage together best i can.

Silver Apples

Me on Camera for Silver Apples in the middle!!

Was comfortable on camera this was the second or third time i had been on camera andy was on camera two which was mainly the establishing shot that we had except a few slow zooms we added into the mix, i was comfortable at this and would like to progress my camera skills further by trying out a more difficult camera next time i do a multi-camera session.

The Shivers

Me Floor Managing on the left for The Shivers!!

In this multi camera session it was the first time i had ever floor managed so i was nervous at first and made a few mistakes but once i had got over the confidence side of introducing myself to the talent and worked out what to do with guidance from my tutor i then felt that i was capable and think i could do the task of being floor manager again comfortably.
